Hi, I just bought this card 2 weeks ago speciphicly for Tera online to upgrade my old radeon and now only in tera I get some random computer freeze (need a whole comp reboot) while playing it
I uninstalled the old drivers with the method listed in another topic on this forum (driver sweep and such) but no luck
I tried switching back to mono screen, closed every other software and such but no luck, sometimes after 2 minutes and sometimes after 3 hours it just simply freeze
I got no such problem with other games like world of tanks, just tera
I even switched hard drives and launched a repair of tera client, same thing happens
I also asked some random guys on the game chat and found another user of this card with the same freeze problem though

ok here's what I tried:
unplugged 2 of the 5 HDD, all the useless USB crap plugged, removed the dual screen, lowered the settings of Tera even, uninstalled and reinstalled the catalyst 12.4.. Though after installing it keeps saying 12.3 (and I redownloaded the 12.4, "12-4_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc", still write 12.3 in catalyst somehow)
so even after all that, same shit, computer freeze after 10mins in game...
Tera support didn't reply to my thicket for over 2 days now also, am thinking of returning this shitty graphic card very soon, I bought it for this game and I'm screwed by it...

Ive had a similar problem with Shogun 2, Skyrim. I dont have tera online to test that, but I bet its the same thing. There are more on the list of games that freeze with these cards. AMD's customer support said the problems is with the drivers. Sapphires customer support said to RMA the card a 3rd time. When a game crashes, these cards rarely CTD. They simply lock up the entire computer. Nice. Mine is going back to the store and I'll be looking at alternatives.
Oh yeah and dont you love how it installs the old catalyst? The only way it allowed me to install 12.4 was by using Atiman uninstaller. Then it actually installed 12.4. Didn't help with the freezing.
Its amateur night at AMD.

Here is someone else with the same problem with a 7970. Same problem on different computers with 2 7970 cards. It seems to effect the whole 7xxx series.

Yeah AMD's customer support said that I need to be patient and give the drivers time to mature. Lol. Yeah right. Thats not what I paid for.
I'll add that I don't think its Sapphire's fault. Although their customer support wasn't exactly helpful. Its AMD and their crappy drivers. I like the cooling solution on my card. Quiet and cool. Without good drivers, good hardware is garbage.
^-^ I find it a bit funny on how in the TERA BETA the game fan pretty much fine (which I was a part of actually). But in the release version there were locks and hitches in the regions that were not a part of BETA.
But yeah, first hand experience, this problem is chronic and we cannot really do anything with AMD. Sorry to hear about your problems, but I hope you enjoy the game.

Yeah hardly Sapphire's fault .. if it's a driver issue, then if you'd have bought XFX, MSI or whatever other 3rd party manufacturer, the problem would still be there .. Drivers need to mature and that's a fact of life with VGA cards, it's been the same since forever in that respect .. and it's exactly the same thing for nVidia and their cards, drivers and 3rd party manufacturers.
Go to nVidia's forums and look for Tera Online nVidia issues and you'll see their forums full of their users complaining about the game on nVidia cards too ..
If it's a game bug then they'd have to patch the game to be stable enough before either card manufacturer can provide good drivers for it to be played OK on their cards ..
People are too quick to blame their VGA cards when it's usually a game issue which is the cause of things, Rage and SkyRim as an example of two most recent problematic games come to mind ..

Its true, but I seriously doubt I would be having the kind ridiculous issues with nvidias drivers. For example, the latest drivers installing the wrong version over and over unless I use a 3rd party uninstaller. Ive seen 4 posts in the past day about people having this issue.
Also, Im sure that game developers are partly to blame for the problems, but why is it that the cards are freezing the whole system rather than simply crashing to desktop? Thats a pretty serious problem.
One dude in trying to get Shogun 2 to work (which has serious dx11 crashing issues right now) swapped out his 7970 for a GTX 680. The crashes still occurred (games fault) but the nvidia card didn't freeze up the whole system. The whole freezing thing is something that I don't have patience for considering the amount of money I spent.
Ati has been known for having inferior drivers. I never had any problems until now. Now I see what people were talking about. Some of the stuff that has happened while reinstalling drivers has been pretty bizzare and random. Like settings getting saved in some cases and erased in others. Screen scaling being set to zero and 30% in others. Random desktop resolutions. Its like CCC does whatever the heck it wants. This all happens on a fresh install of Win 7 following the same procedure for every install. Software should not have a mind of its own.
My favorite was once when I uninstalled CCC it set the desktop resolution so low that I couldn't click next to install CCC and the window isn't resizeable. Nice. So by uninstalling their drivers they deleted some generic windows driver so that it became impossible to reinstall the drivers without researching some sort of work around.
I used to have a high opinion of ATI. I've done enough programming to know how troublesome it can be, but this whole experience makes me wonder what their staff is like behind closed doors considering the product they are putting out. Its a shame. The card is an amazing piece of hardware--cheap and capable of a lot of overclocking. Lets hope they get their act together. Maybe by dropping driver support for the older cards they can focus on polishing their drivers.

Really ? I've just spent a day working on a friend's machine with a GTX460 in it trying to get BF3 working with no problems .. tell him they don't have issues with their drivers ..
At least I've never seen AMD's drivers kill cards out of the box, which I've seen nVidia's drivers do on at least 2 - 3 occasions now .. driver issues happen, that's all part and parcel of building PCs etc I'm afraid as there are a zillion hardware/software combos to deal with and they can't be expected to cover every single one of them. That's why manufacturers have driver bug report pages ..
I work as a PC/IT tech and run my own business .. I see issues with both manufacturers day in, day out .. the fallacy that nVidia's drivers are somewhat better than AMDs or that they have zero issues is just that, a fallacy .. anybody claiming the opposite is either misinformed, a fan boy type or just doesn't have a clue about the IT business ..
.. but hey, this is a circular argument as it can go on ad infinitum really ..

it's true that it's hardly sapphire fault, but still I don't see any effort from them to either solve or at least communicate on those things
so ATI is at fault here but sapphire isn't all white (neither are all the others manufacturer using 7xxx though)
I loved ati for so many years now cos they always made cheap hardware with great performance and so far no big issue with them, but here I bought this card simply to play tera at max and I end up almost throwing the whole comp in the pool raging after 4 reboot in a row cos of those freezes
as for the drivers I DID uninstall them last time with driver sweeper and still the version of the driver is 12.3 somehow.. I'll even try again tomorrow but I have no hope whatsoever though, drivers not solving problem is one thing, but not being able to even install the drivers properly is a BIG issue ATI...

Try using atiman to uninstall. Then do a fresh install. That worked for me and others to get the proper driver version to install (ati's drivers don't uninstall properly in case you didn't notice jk). Also, if tera has a direct x 11 mode, try it in Dx9 or 10 if offered. Shogun 2 works for me in Dx9 but crashes constantly in Dx11. It probably wont work because the problems with each game are different. Worth a shot though.

I have a very similar problem on my newly built system, that is around a month old. It looks like this:
Display: Dell U2410
Case: Antec P280
CPU: Intel i5 2500K
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
Mem: G.Skill 8GB CL9 1600Mhz Ripjaws Gaming (F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD7850 2GB "OC Version"
PSU: Corsair AX 750W
SSD: Samsung SSD 830 128GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB
CD/DVD: Lite-On DVD±RW (IHAS124-19)
OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit
I have not played Tera though, I have instead encountered the random computer freezes in Diablo 3, StarCraft 2 and Battlefield 3.
I have tried with both amd driver versions 12.3 and 12.4 . 12.2 and earlier cannot be installed with this card.
To avoid the whole uninstallation-swamp. I have made a complete reinstallation of Windows every time I have made a change.
So the only thing I have done is to install the various drivers right after windows installation finishes.
And then copy over the game from other media (either Starcraft2 or Diablo3, both games support "installation by copy") to the computer and start playing.
In both these games the computer randomly freeze. It can be after 20min, it can be after 3 hours. I can be in-the-game, or it can be in the menus in the game.
At the moment I have no clue what could be the problem. Do I have faulty hardware? Is it software-related? I.e. is it some driver-issue?
One theory (among many) that I have; Is that the card (HD 7850) just is so new, and the only 2 driver-versions that support it (12.3 and 12.4) just cant run it stable.
I, however, have very little experience with these sorts of things... so I dont know if that is a "probable" theory, or if it is "far-fetched". Can anyone here spread some insight in this?
First I thought it was Diablo3-specific. Since it is such a new game (came out May 15th). But then when I started to play SC2, and the exact same thing happened there (and that game has been out almost 2 years now). I think the "Diablo3-is-so-new-theory" becomes less viable.
