April 24, 2013 represents a big day for AMD

Yesterday AMD and its 3rd Party manufacturers had many revelations to its public consumer base as The new 13.4 WHQL and 13.5 Beta drivers were released. As we have followed AMD it has been quite a while since a driver update has been released, especially a WHQL and one loaded with features to boot. This is a very feature rich driver for all HD 7000 series and many new feature sets incorporated for OPEN GL. Those features will benefit all users. This is probably the best driver out in a while.

This driver was launched in conjunction with the most powerful video card created thus far the AMD Radeon HD7990 (see below for more info) This driver will be the one to use for those lucky enough to cop one of these on launch. Obviously these drivers are supreme for the HD7000 series in general. They are no slouch for HD5000 & HD6000 users as well. I have installed them and used them before posting my report and they are hot.

Another long anticipated release is that of the new 13.4 Catalyst C.A.P. Application Profile with many enhancements. It has been quite some time since we have seen one of these. :)

-With the Radeon HD7790 graphics card, corruption may be seen in the game Tomb Raider with TressFX enabled

-Texture flickering may be observed in DirectX 9.0c enabled applications

-Corruption observed in Tomb Raider with TressFX enabled for AMD Crossfire and single GPU system configurations

-Corruption observed on objects and textures in the game, Call of Duty – Black Ops 2

-Corruption observed in the game, Alan Wake (DirectX 9 Mode) when attempting to change in-game settings with Stereoscopic 3D using Tridef

-Corruption observed on textures in the game, Battle Field: Bad Company 2 with forced anti-aliasing enabled

-Adobe Photoshop CS6 experiences screen flicker under Windows 8 based system

-Horizontal line corruption may be observed with forced anti-aliasing enabled in the game, Dishonored

-System hang may occur when scrolling through the game selection menu in the game, DiRT 3

-F1 2012 may crash to desktop on systems supporting AMD PowerXpress (Enduro) Technology

Known Issues

The section provides a summary of open issues that may be experienced with the AMD’s Catalyst™ Software Suite, AMD Catalyst™ 13.4

-Jumping artifacts, and unsmooth playback of interlaced clips may be experienced using Cyberlink’s Metro UI players

-A black screen may be observed when resuming from a S3/S4 sleep state if the display is unplugged during the sleep state on systems supported AMD PowerXpress (Enduro) Technology

Introducing the AMD HD7990 6GB

AMD Radeon HD 7990 Final Specifications Unveiled

The final specifications of AMD’s upcoming Radeon HD 7990 “Malta” GPU have been exposed by ChinaDIY. Launching on 24th April, the specifications of the card show that the GPU is built on the 28nm Tahiti core architecture featuring an enhanced core clock of 1 GHz.

The AMD Radeon HD 7990 “Malta” has two Tahiti XT cores which result in a total of 8.6 Billion transistors, 4096 Stream processors, 2 Prim /Clock , 256 Texture mapping units and 64 Raster operating units. The core is clocked at 1000 MHz or 1 GHz though not known whether it has the GPU boost technology enabled or not. The card is equipped with a massive 6 GB GDDR5 memory that operates along a 384-bit x 2 memory interface and is clocked at 6.0 GB/s effective frequency. The memory pump outs an impressive 576.0 GB/s bandwidth. The Radeon 7990 has a peak compute performance of 8.2 TFlops.

The AMD Radeon HD 7990 reference dual-chip beast, previously known as New Zealand is codenamed Malta. It was showcased at GDC 2013 which revealed that it still carried the triple fan cooling solution shown over a year ago. It was also mentioned that the Radeon HD 7990 powered the 17 minute gameplay trailer of Battlefield 4 which is being developed by DICE. A few days ago, a reddit user who was later revealed to be a developer on the Frostbite 3 engine posted a picture of his test setup that was running the Radeon HD 7990 in CrossFireX mode.

AMD’s Radeon HD 7990 is assembled using a dual-slot cooling solution which features triple fans etched on the shroud. These 92mm fans are part of the turbine cooling design which provides enhanced cooling performance to the internal vapor chamber heatsinks equipped on each core and fused together using copper heatpipes.

The Radeon HD 7990 would go head on head against NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 690 that was released almost a year ago. Both cards would end up with a $1000 cost so with it's new 13.4 Catalyst Driver benchmarks decided the GPU would get the performance throne.

SAPPHIRE Technology has just announced that it will start shipping the HD 7990 – the fastest graphics card available based on the highly acclaimed graphics GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture from AMD.
