    Hello everyone,

I registered here just to shed some light on this situation here with the BLACK SCREEN issue and provide the answer to why this occurs.

The memory controller on the Hawaii chip needs a certain voltage to drive the chip to higher frequencies. (each chip's controller might need higher or lower base voltage to operate the memory at the overclocked 1300Mhz frequency)

The REAL ISSUE here is POOR SAPPHIRE QUALITY CONTROL - they are shipping cards that are not properly tested.

The reason why the 015.044.000.011.000000 works is because it has the HIGHEST BASE VOLTAGE out of all the bioses Sapphire has shipped on the TRiX R9 290 cards. It's stock voltage is 1.008V as opposed to 0.969V and 0.984V for previous biosses.

I just RMAed a R9 290 TriX OC card with Athlon in Canada due to faulty fans - I received a card that would black screen as soon as it would load the driver in windows. This is when 1300Mhz memory clock kicks in. Memory controller would fail. Who gives a customer a card back that does not work? And wastes their time.

In conclusion after speaking with my contact at AMD Canada, I was told whats really up here. And that its nothing but POOR QUALITY CONTROL.

In short - this is my last Sapphire card.

I have an older HD 6970 and it has an aftermarket cooler on it, it runs at the stock frequencies and I do not need to overclock the card as its plenty powerful enough

There are lots of issues with R9 200 and 300 series cards, but its not clear whether its drives or DXGI or DX that is at issue

My GTX 660 Ti suffers from BSOD problems, which I do not see with the HD 6070

MSI Afterburner has options to tweak the voltages, feel free to try some values. The AMD Overdrive is another option you can select and it also can manage the GPU to some extent.
    Built in April 2013
I also have a Sapphire HD 6970 with the Arctic Accelero Xtreme III cooler

Sorry - were you replying to me? Because that has nothing to do with anything.

    Updated to Windows 10.
Now nothing but constant Black Screen every time I log into Windows. 1-5 min max.

Tried multiple drivers 15.0 to current beta.

Removed each driver using guru3d driver Uninstaller.

Have to use generic Windows drivers to even do anything.

Totally agree this is the reason for black screen issue and it not just happen with Sapphire cards it can happen with any manufacturers factory OC'd card.

    Hi,

I also have the black screen issue. I would be very happy if someone could provide me the new bios and instructions. My card is the R9 290 Vapor-X OC.

    Thanks!
